DUFF, E.G. (1905), p.1

ACTORS (PETER), stationer in London, appears to have travelled about the country to supply books with his partner Joannes de Aquisgrano { }. In 1483 they were at Oxford and supplied a number of books to Thomas Hunte the Oxford stationer on sale or return. [Madan. Day-book of John Dorne, p. 142.] In 1485 he was appointed the royal stationer. "Grant, for life, to Peter Actoris, born in Savoy of the office of stationer to the King; also licence to import, so often as he likes, from parts beyond the sea, books printed and not printed into the port of the city of London, and other ports and places within the kingdom of England, and to dispose of the same by sale or otherwise, without paying customs, etc. thereon and without rendering any accompt thereof." 5th December, 1485. [Materials, Hen. VII, p. 211.] Peter Actors was the father of Sebastian Actors the Oxford stationer and had a daughter Margaret married to John Hewtee, another Oxford stationer. He was still alive in 1501, but probably died soon after for by 1504 his privilege had been granted to William Faques { FAQUES, William ‹ LBT 28385 › ] who, being a practical printer, styled himself Printer to the King.
