ALLDE, ALDAYE, or ALDE (JOHN), printer in London, was an apprentice to Richard Kele { KELE, Richard ( - 1552) ‹ LBT 28231 › } who, on his death in 1552, left him "fyve pounds in wares." Allde took up his freedom in January, 1555, and shortly afterwards started work in his old master's shop, the "long shop in the Poultry at the stocks beside St. Mildred's church." He is mentioned continuously in the Stationers' Registers; often for bad behaviour, but it is not until 1560 that he entered any copies. From this time onwards he printed busily. In October, 1568, Allde was imprisoned in the Counter in the Poultry for printing a book about the Duke of Alva. [Arber, II, 745.] Numbers of books continued to be issued up to about 1582, when Allde appears to have given up business. His son Edward { ALLDE, Edward ( - 1627) ‹ LBT 06782 › } became a freeman by patrimony in 1584, and in August of the same year his father's name is found for the last time.
