There is a not to say "This monument gone in 1865. --- Hutchins, vol.2, p.505 [under Osmington]- "Daniel Sheldon, of London, in 1695 sold the capital messuage and farm near the church of 150l. Per annum to Awnsham Churchill, an eminent bookseller, from who it descended to William churchill, esq., of Henbury, his great nephew --- About 1745, Robert Serrel Wood, gent. Bought a portion of Awnsham Churchill's extate in this manor, and his son, also Robert Serrel Wood, purchased the remainder of the Churchill's estate in 1770" --- Hutchins, vol.2,p.508 [under West Ringsted] - "1723 --- when it was sold by James Huishe, esq., great-grandson of the first purchaser, to Awnsham Churchill, esq., from who it descended in the same manner with the capital messuage and farm of Osmington, to William churchill, of Henbury, esq., of who it was purchased by John Trenchard." --- Hutchins, vol.3, pp.352-3 [under Henbury higher or Upper Hymbury in the hundred of Coydean] - "1704 --- when John Morton, esq., of Corfe Castle, the last of the family, sold it to Awnsham Churchill, esq., an eminent stationer, in London, and member of Parliament for Dorchester. This family, whose arms are, Sable, a lion rampant argent debruised with a bendlet gules, was descended from William Churchill of Dorchester, who had issue Awnsham, William, John of London, Colonel Joshua Churchill of Gussage All Saints [died 1706, and is buried at Dorchester; see vol.1, p.389], Jane, sarah, Susan, and Richard - Awnsham died unmarried: his brother John succeeded to his estate, and had issue William, Awnsham, Joshua of Gussage All Saints, and Mary, married to Joseph Damer, of Dorchester, esq.; William married Magdalen, daughter of William Wake, Archbishop of Canterbury, and died without issue 1753; Awnsham married Sarah only daughter of John Lowndes, esq. Of Sheppardswell, [which he left to his nephew Awnsham of Henbury, who died possessed of it 1773, and his sons and coheirs, in gavelkind. William of Henbury, and Henry, clerk, passed it away by sale 1785 (Hasted's Kent, vol.iv, p.4)], co. Kent, by whom he had three children, William, Henry, rector of Birdbrook, co. Essex, and Mary, who married Edward, second son of Henry Drax, of Charborough, esq. [see pedigree Drax. ---]. William Churchill, esq., the eldest son, was married first, in 1770, to Lady Louisa Greville, daughter of Francis first Earl of Brooke and Warwick, and secondly to Eliza, widow of Frederick-Thomas third Earl Strafford. By his first wife he had issue an only son, William Churchill, esq. Who became possessor of Upper Henbury, and in 1820 sold it to Mr.Paxton --- Mr.Churchill resided chiefly inh London, and, dying in 1835 without issue, he devised his estate at Sturminister Marshall, called Moor Court, to his kinsman on the mother's side, the Rev.W.R.H.Churchill of Colliton, son of William Churchills, esq., of the same place, by Jane his wife, daughter and co-heir of Joshua Churchill of Gussage above mentioned. [See pedigree Churchill of Colliton]. It is probable that the Churchills of Henbury may have sprung from a common paternal ancestor with those of Colliton, but, if so, the connecting link is very remote, and it has hither to been undiscovered. Awnsham and John Churchill printed the controversy between Stillingfleet and Locke, supposed the foundation of their fortune, or else 1,000l for priinting King William's first manifesto, which nobody would venture to print after Monmouths. A library at Henbury was formed by them." --- Hutchins, vol.4, p.461 - [under Alton Australis] - "In or about this last century it was purchased by Awnsham Churchill of Upper Henbury, esq., to who succeeded his nephew William, whose brother Awnsham Churchill, esq., afterwards possessed it, as did his eldest son, William Churchill, esq. The Churchill property in Alton was purchased in 1809 of William Churchill, esq., by john Miller, of Mapowder, esq. --- ". ---
