COCKES (JOHN), stationer in London, is entered in the lists of aliens in 1541 and 1544 as a denizen. [R. of A., pp. 67, 93.] He was evidently in a good position, as his goods were valued at a hundred marks, and he had an assistant John Gybken { GYBKYN, John ( - 1586) ‹ LBT 28268 › }. In 1539 an edition of Colet's Aeditio was printed for him at Antwerp by the widow of Martin Caesar, and in 1541 an edition of the Sarum Hymni cum notis , by the widow of Christopher van Endhoven. He lived in St. Paul's Churchyard.
