DUFF, E.G. (1905), p.31
COOKE (WILLIAM), stationer in London, was an original member of the Company at the time of the incorporation. He wasreceived on the livery in 1561 on payment of fifteen shillings. He does not appear to have heen either a printer or publisher, but presented a number of apprentices. He was frequently renter and auditor to the Company and was one of the Wardens in 1574-5. He died shortly before 1598, in which year his widow {Anne - COOKE, Anne (mar. HOOPER) ‹ LBT 03103 › } presented one of his apprentices. His son William { COOKE, William ‹ LBT 07228 › { was also a member of the Stationers' Company. A daughter, Sarah, married, September 3rd, 1586, Andrew Feilde, a grocer. [London Marriage Licenses, p. 153.] W. Cooke lived in the Parish of St. Dunstan's-in-the-West.

COOKE (WILLIAM), stationer in London, 1561-98; St. Dunstan's in the West. See Duff, Century. From his will which was proved on February 8th, 1597/8 we learn that he was born at Langford in Bedfordshire. He bequeathed his lands in that county to his sons William { COOKE, William ‹ LBT 07228 › } and Henry { COOKE, Henry ( - 1627) ‹ LBT 07227 › }, both of whom were stationers, and left the residue to his widow Anne Cooke { COOKE, Anne (mar. HOOPER) ‹ LBT 03103 › }. There is some reason to believe that she afterwards married Humphrey Hooper { JACKSON, Richard ‹ LBT 08585 › }, stationer. She died in 1621 and left a bequest to one of the children of Henry Cooke, and a sum of money to the Livery of the Company of Stationers on condition that they were present at her funeral [P.C.C., 101, Dale].
