FRENCHE (PETER), stationer in London, was an original member of the Company on its incorporation. He is mentioned frequently in the Registers as taking apprentices, entering copies and paying fines. He is not mentioned after 1580, so that he probably died about that time. His daughter Mary { FRENCH, Mary (mar. LEWES) ‹ LBT 03060 › } married July 3rd, 1593, Robert Lewes { LEWES, Robert ‹ LBT 06844 › } of St. Bride's London, stationer. [London Marriage Licenses, p. 208.]

FRENCH (PETER), bookseller in London, 1555-84. This stationer is first mentioned in the Registers in a list of those paying fines for being late in their attendance at the Hall on July 6th, 1555. He also contributed to Bridewell and other charities [Arber, i. 44, 47). French appears to have dealt in ballads and almanacks. The last entry under his name is on March 15th, 1579/80 [Arber, ii. 366]. He made his will on June 25th, 1584, and it was proved on December 19th in the same year. He was twice married {- name not known FRENCH, (Unknown) ‹ LBT 03130 ›; Joan FRENCH, Joan ‹ LBT 03131 › }, but left no son [Dean and Chapter off St. Paul's, Book B. fol. 277].
