- 1585 - from the dominion of the King of France
Duff, E.G. (1905), p.65
HALLYAR or HOLLYARDE (JASPER), bookbinder in London, came to England about 1540. In 1549 he was entered in the Subsidy Roll as an assistant to Edward Whitchurch { WHITCHURCH, Edward ( - 1562) ‹ LBT 02612 › } and paid a tax of four shillings on goods valued at four pounds. [R. of A., I, 180.] In June, 1567, he took out letters of denization and is described as "from the dominion of the King of France." [Pat. 9 Eliz., p. 3, m. 40.] In the same year he is entered in the Return of Aliens as a bookbinder who had married an English wife { HALLYAR, (Unknown) ‹ LBT 06390 › } and had been in England 25 years. [R. of A., I, 320.] In 1571 he is entered in St. Andrew's Parish Castle Baynard Ward, as a printer and householder, a Frenchman and a denizen, in England 33 years: with one daughter, Elizabeth. [R. of A., I, 478; II, 86.]
