Further Notes

Assistantship - Greg (p.xxiii) thought it "reasonable to suppose that past officers remained members of the Court" and that most of those men who became Assistants between 1576 and 1602 without evidence of direct election did so by virtue of their election as Under Warden". ---

HARRISON (JOHN), was a member of the Stationers' Company at the time of its incorporation though his name is not in the original list as he was not made free until August 19th, 1556. He came on the Livery in 1564 and was three times Warden and three times Master. He printed at the White Greyhound in St. Paul's Churchyard and the Greyhound in Paternoster Row. Harrison died at the beginning of 1617 and his will was proved on February 11th. [Plomer, Wills, 48-9.] To his wife Juliana [Barnes] { BARNES, Juliana (mar. HARRYSON) ‹ LBT 03145 › } whom he married in December, 1586, and who was apparently his second wife he left a third of his property, a third went to his son and daughters, the remainder in various legacies. His half-brother John Harrison { HARRISON, John ( - 1617) ‹ LBT 07622 › }, also a stationer, died in 1618.
