LAURET (GILES), bookbinder in London, is mentioned in the Subsidy Rolls of 1541 as dwelling in Shoe Lane with goods valued at £4 and taxed 4s. [R. of A., I, 56.] In 1544 the value of his goods was given as £3 [R. of A., I, 95.] In 1545 he is mentioned in the will of Edward Ylle { YLLE, Edward ( - 1545) ‹ LBT 28259 › }, stationer "Gyles Lauret, bynder iii s. iiij d." He is last mentioned in the Subsidy Roll of 1549 when his goods were worth £12, and he paid a tax of twenty-four shillings. [R. of A., I, 181.] He may perhaps be identical with "Giles Lawrence, born in Croofelde in Normandy, aged 43 years. Married to an English woman and has 5 children English born. In England 34 years. 1 July, 1544." [Westm. Deniz. Roll, 36 Hen. VIII.]
