SHAW or SHAWE (JAMES), bookseller in London, 1601-3; near Lud Gate. Son of Bartholomew Shawe of Westminster, cordwainer. Apprentice to William Ponsonby { PONSONBY, William ( - 1603) ‹ LBT 08175 › }, stationer of London, for twelve years from Christmas, 1588, and made a freeman of the Company on January 19th, 1600/1. James Shaw made his first entry in the Registers on November 25th, 1601, and his last on June l0th, 1603. [Arber, ii. 154, 727; iii. 196, 237.]
