SUTTON (NICHOLAS), stationer in London, died some time before April 30th, 1531, for in that year his widow Elizabeth { SUTTON, Elizabeth ‹ LBT 06421 › } took a lease from the college of the petty canons of St. Paul's of a shop on the North side of St. Paul's Churchyard for 60 years at four marks a year. This lease was surrendered and a new one taken for 70 years by Humphrey Toy {TOY, Humphrey ( - 1577) ‹ LBT 08606 › }. Nicholas Sutton was probably the stationer mentioned as Nicholas the bookseller in St. Paul's Churchyard who sold prohibited books to Antony Dalaber. [v, Nicholas.] Two panel stamps on bindings are known [Westm. Abbey] with medallion heads and the initials N.S, followed by a tun, which may be ascribed to him.
