TAB or DABBE (HENRY), stationer in London, is first mentioned in a letter written in October, 1539, by Richard Stevenage, abbot of St. Albans to Cromwell about John Hertford { HERFORD, John ‹ LBT 28417 › } the printer. "Sent John Pryntare to London with Harry Pepwell { PEPWELL, Henry ( - 1541) ‹ LBT 28281 › }, Bonere { Bonham BONHAM, William (1497 - 1557) ‹ LBT 06973 › } and Tabbe of Powlles churchyard, stationers, to order him at your pleasure." [Letters and papers of Hen. VIII, xiv, pt. ii, No. 315.] In 1540 he was summoned before the Priy Council as suspected of having printed an edition (of which no copy is now known) of the Epistle of Melanchthon to Henry VIII for the revoking and abolishing of the six articles, but he was declared innocent of the matter, and dismissed. [Acts of the Privy Council, vol. vii, pp. 100-101.] In 1541 he issued, with Richard Banks { BANKES, Richard ‹ LBT 28349 › }, the Questionary of Cyrurgyens, translated by Robert Copland and printed by Robert Wyer { WYER, Robert ‹ LBT 02899 › }. He is spoken of in the colophon as "the ryght honest parsone Henry Dabbe stacyoner and byblyopolyst in Paules churche yarde." R. Lant { LANT, Richard ‹ LBT 07965 › } printed for him an edition of Skelton and he also issued according to Herbert the Book of hawking and hunting and the Treasury of poor men. In 1545 he was "overseer" of the will of Edward Ylle { YLLE, Edward ( - 1545) ‹ LBT 28259 › }, stationer, for which he received six shillings and eight pence. His' place of business was in Paul's Churchyard at the sign of Judith. He died in 1548 and his will was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.
