VYKE (JOHN DE), bookbinder in London, was a Frenchman from Rouen who came to England about 1551. In 1562 he took out letters of denization "9 March John De Visque from the dominion of the King of France." [Pat. 4 Eliz., p. 11, m. 6.] In 1567 he was living in Aldersgate Ward but in the returns of 1571 is entered in the Tower Ward "John de Vyke, bokebynder, Frenchman, denizen and haith byne here xx ty yeres." [R. of A., I, 454.]
