1839-08-05 | 1840-02-21 | Wills B:448 - late of Chiswick, Middlesex. --- PRO - Printer of Chiswick, Middlesex. --- "Charities and Benefactions ---", 1868 Charles Whittingham, Esq. Late a liveryman of the Company (who died 15th January, 1840), by his will, dated 5th August, 1839, and proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on the 21st February, 1840, bequeathed as follows: I give and bequeath unto the Master, Wardens, and Court of assistants of the Worshipful company of Stationers, London, the sum of £2,000 Three per Cent. Consolidated Bank Annuities, upon trust that they do and shall from time to time hereafter receive the dividends, interest, and annual produce thereof, and do and shall yearly and every year by half-yearly payments pay and distribute the same unto and equally between Six poor Females of deserving character, who shall be the Widows of either Compositors or Pressmen (and whether their husbands shall have been free of the said Company or not). And I declare that such Females at the time they shall be selected as fit objects for the said provision hereby made for them must be of the age of 50 years or upwards, and that they shall continue entitled to receive the said provision during Widowhood only. And moreover it is my particular request that, should any persons being Widows of compositors or Pressmen who have been in my employ (such applicants being poor persons of good character) make application for the provision hereby made, they shall be selected, whenever vacancies occur, as the objects of such bounty before any other applicants. And I further direct that all the said several before-mentioned legacies or such of them as shall be liable to duty, shall be paid to the said several parties free from duty.* --- * The sume of £2,000 Consolidated £3 per Cent. Annuities was transferred by Mr.Whittingham's Executors to the Company, and is standing in the name of the Corporation. The dividends are paid to 6 Widows as directed. --- |
